International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC)

The "International Cyanide Management Code for the Manufacture, Transport, and Use of Cyanide in the Production of Gold" (Cyanide Code) was developed by a multi-stakeholder steering committee under the guidance of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME). The Code is a voluntary industry-specific program. The objective is to improve the management of cyanide used in gold and silver mining and to enhance protection of human health and the reduction of environmental impacts.

CyPlus was a member of the multi-stakeholder steering committee and the first company worldwide to successfully perform a pre-audit based on the ICMC questionnaire. CyPlus has held the Chair and Vice Chair of the Industry Advisory Group (IAG) of the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) and is actively involved in improving the code.

In June 2021, CyPlus GmbH's cyanide plant, located in Wesseling/Germany passed its sixth certification in accordance with the ICMC. Our joint venture in Coatzacoalcos/Mexico, CyPlus Idesa S.A.P.I de C.V., has had its own certification since 2017, which was successfully renewed in 2023. Passing the audits is proof that CyPlus meets the comprehensive, stringent requirements of the ICMC for cyanide producers. Furthermore, CyPlus fulfils the requirements of the ICMC as a consignor for cyanides on defined transport routes and holds ICMC certifications for several supply chains worldwide.

With these ICMC certification activities, CyPlus demonstrates commitment to its customers as a reliable and experienced global partner for the gold and silver mining industry in the supply of cyanides as well as technologies and services.
